Resizing Photo Resizing Photo

Before uploading your picture, you will need to make sure it is the correct size. You can resize your photo using Microsoft Paint , a simple graphics program like that is included in all versions of Microsoft Windows. To access, Paint go to Start>Programs>Accessories>Paint.

Step 1. Once in Paint, click on File and then drop down to Open. Select the picture you want to upload. Hit Open. Often times the size of a picture is underestimated. If you open a relatively large file, that file needs to be reduced to the size you want to appear in your web site.

Step 2. To resize your photo, the first thing you want to do is check your attributes. Click on the Image and drop down to Attributes. Look at the resolution. If your resolution is more than 200 X 200 dots per inch, You will need to resize your picture. Click on the Image and drop down to Stretch/Skew... or use “Ctrl W.” Under Stretch, reduce your photo by the same percentage (see screen shot below) otherwise the image will be distorted. You do not need to do anything with Skew. Click Ok. Repeat the Step 2 until your picture is the correct size. It is best to start with a large picture and reduce.

Warning: Remember that reducing the size of your picture will reduce its quality. Be cautious and use Save As instead of Save so as not to replace your old file with the newly resized picture.

Step 3. Save your picture by clicking on Files. Then, drop down and select Save As. A window will pop-up, make sure to rename your picture so that the original is not replaced. For example, if your original was bigwebpicture.bmp, rename the smaller newly resized picture as smallwebpicture.bmp
